How Bundle Discounts Work

Insurance companies offer multi-policy discounts — commonly called "bundle discounts" — when you purchase more than one type of insurance from the same carrier. The most common bundle is homeowners + auto, but many insurers also discount renters + auto, condo + auto, or even life + home + auto combinations.

The typical discount ranges from 10% to 25% off the combined premium. In Texas, where the average homeowner pays $4,800/yr for home insurance and $2,627/yr for auto, a 15% bundle discount would save approximately $720/yr — or about $60/mo.

However, bundling isn't always the cheapest option. Sometimes the combined cost from two separate best-rate insurers beats a bundled price from one carrier. Always compare: get your best standalone quotes for each line, then get bundled quotes and compare the totals.

Major carriers offering bundle discounts include State Farm, Allstate, Progressive, USAA, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, and Travelers. Credit unions and employer groups may offer additional affinity discounts on top of the bundle.
